EARLY LEARNING CENTRES - REFUGEE WEEK AND FAMILY BONDS
A Dynamic Community Hub
Our Early Learning Centres are dynamic community hubs that go beyond traditional education and care services. They play a vital role as nurturing environments for children whose families are engaged in the AMEP English program, often from humanitarian and refugee backgrounds.
Refugee Week: "Finding Freedom: Family"
Refugee Week holds a special place in our calendar, and this year's theme, "Finding Freedom: Family," deeply resonated throughout our community. At our Padstow ELC, the children dived into meaningful discussions about their families, proudly displaying family photos provided by parents and creating artwork that celebrated familial bonds. They explored stories that reflect the diverse cultural heritage of Australia's refugee population, aiming to deepen understanding and appreciation among our young learners.
Welcoming New Families
One heartwarming moment was welcoming a family recently returned from Indonesia. Their shared experiences, including treasured moments with loved ones and tasting traditional snacks, enriched our communal dialogue and expanded our cultural horizons.
End of Term Concert at Ultimo
Towards the end of the term, children from our Ultimo service were invited to join an end-of-term concert hosted at their TAFE campus, alongside AMEP students and their families. The highlight of the afternoon was the children's spirited rendition of "Baby Shark," a performance they had practiced enthusiastically with their educators. This joyful event not only showcased the children's talents but also highlighted our commitment to supporting the AMEP program and nurturing a sense of pride and accomplishment among all participants.
Building Strong Bonds
It was a heartwarming celebration that underscored the strong bonds between our centres, families, and the wider community, embodying the inclusive spirit that defines our educational philosophy at Gowrie NSW.
AMEP
Our Adult Migration Education Program (AMEP) is a service centre to help place children in childcare across NSW / ACT for migrant families studying English.
We aim to provide a safe, nurturing and educational environment for children to develop their abilities and potential. We are respectful of the uniqueness of each family’s cultural background and ensure families feel welcome to leave their children with confidence while they attend English classes.
