Understanding Care Moments: Care as Curriculum (6-Part Series)
Katherine will share videos, unpack practical examples of all care moments that contribute to a considerable part of our days and actively explore the concept of 'care as curriculum' which she focused on in her MED research.
You will learn how to transform practice from task-based chores to enjoyable moments of care. The workshops conclude with a focus on the role of the educational leader, room leader and future leader and how people in these roles can stimulate professional dialogue and transformative practice in teams.
Session 1
Explores competency of infants and toddlers, and sets the scene for reexamining our roles as educators and teachers with infants and toddlers.
Session 2
Will explore nappy changing and toilet learning as a key way to facilitate active participation and learning through care.
Session 3
Will sleep and rest as times that are less time-pressured and controlled that involve children through peaceful interactions.
Session 4
Will examine meal times and bottle feeding as active ways to facilitate children’s health and wellbeing through cooperative and well-organised care moments that offer individual infants and older toddlers in groups mealtimes that involve them through every step.
Session 5
Will look at the role of the child and adult in dressing and preparing for weather – sun and other weather events. How can we look for participation in times that often feel rushed and involve larger groups?
Session 6
Will unpack transitions and the role of the leader and future leader in facilitating change in programs to focus on care as meaningful and impactful to children’s learning.
Recommended audience: This workshop is suitable for educators, teachers and leaders in early childhood.
