The Confident Response to Assessment & Rating – Putting Educators in the Driver’s Seat (3-part series)

In this series, Jennifer Ribarovski provides information and strategies to empower leaders, teachers and educators to approach the Assessment and Rating process with knowledge and confidence so that they are in the driver’s seat!

In this series of workshops, you will explore how the Assessment and Rating process fits in with the high-level outcomes of the National Quality Framework, supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing. 

 

Session 1:

The National Quality Framework – setting the context for Assessment and Rating 
This session covers the continuous improvement mechanisms of the NQF as the foundation for Assessment and Rating, and the importance of educators understanding practice approaches and articulating these in context. 
Learning outcomes: 
  • learn about the continuous improvement nature of the NQF. 
  • Discover how context is critical to Assessment and Rating against the NQS. 
 

Session 2: 

Unpacking the National Quality Standard and the Exceeding themes 

This session unpacks the exceeding themes from the perspective of benefits for children’s learning, development and wellbeing, and demonstrates the themes in practice. 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Learn about the intention of the exceeding themes and the benefits they bring to children's learning, development and wellbeing. 
  • Unpack how the exceeding themes can be demonstrated in practice in your own unique context. 

 

Session 3: 

The NSW Self-Assessment document – showcasing context and practice 

This session addresses the key to writing key practices aligned with the NSW Self-Assessment document, and introduces strategies for highlighting the exceeding themes in the document and for determining and articulating goals for improvement. 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Learn about the NSW Self-Assessment document and how to showcase your practice to support your Assessment and Rating outcome. 
  • Explore clear strategies to record your key practices in the NSW Self-Assessment document, addressing the exceeding themes and the articulation of goals for improvement.  
  • Make a confident claim for a rating in the NSW Self-Assessment document.

About the presenters

    Jennifer Ribarovski

    Jennifer is the Managing Director of JR Education Consulting Services Pty. Ltd, providing support, guidance, professional development and presentations to the education and care sector nationally and internationally. She has over 40 years’ experience, including extensive teaching in a range of settings, and in executive roles with the NSW Regulatory Authority, ACECQA, peak organisations and providers. Jen has taught at and provided consultancy services to the University of Western Sydney and Sydney University. She holds a Bachelor of ECE and a Master of Educational Leadership and Management with Distinction. Jen co-authored Professional Communication for Early Childhood Educators, published by Oxford University Press. In 2024, she won the Australian Childcare Alliance State of the Sector award for the most significant contribution to teachers and educators. Jen is renowned for making theory and research accessible and practical, and for building educator’s confidence so that they are in the driver’s seat!
