Singing, togetherness and emotional wellbeing with Dr Amanda Niland (3-part series)
Music and especially singing have been shown to have qualities that support mood and self-regulation and foster a sense of belonging and community. Music can help to facilitate inclusion of children of all backgrounds, abilities and ways of being. Time will be spent in focusing specifically on infants and toddlers, and then on older children.
The initial face-to-face workshop will be followed by 2 x 1-hour online sessions via zoom. A multi-session approach will allow participants to learn new skills, set goals, develop and implement pedagogical strategies tailored to their contexts. Folloing this, you'll have the oportunity to share your progress and gain feedback to support your practice as part ofthe interactive online sessions.
In this series of workshops, you will:
- develop your confidence and skills as a singer
- learn a range of songs and specific singing strategies for use with young children
- build your understanding of the relationship between singing and emotion regulation, wellbeing and belonging and,
- set goals for developing your use of singing in your pedagogy.
In the online workshops you will:
- share ideas and musical resources with fellow colleagues
- reflect deeply on, and share progress towards your goals
- ask questions and discuss implications and needs.
