Session 1:
Communication and interactive supervision
This session explores how our identities and perspectives influence the way we communicate and interact in educational settings, including the critical distinction between active and interactive supervision. Educators will examine different types of communication, the role of feedback, and factors that can interfere with effective engagement with children.
Learning outcomes:
- Identify how personal identities and perspectives shape communication and interaction.
- Understand the two types of communication and the role of feedback in team cohesion.
- Recognise common interferences that can affect effective engagement with children.
Session 2:
Communication and interactive supervision
Building on Part 1, this session looks at how impressions and life experiences shape communication and supervision. Educators will explore active listening strategies, the link between internal processes and external behaviours, and the We Belong Education C.A.R.E framework to strengthen relationships and foster children’s sense of belonging.

- Apply active listening strategies to reduce misunderstandings and strengthen connections.
- Understand the relationship between internal processes and external behaviours.
- Learn how to use the C.A.R.E framework to create positive, inclusive environments.

This workshop series is designed for educators in Outside School Hours Care (OSHC), early childhood, and other school-age care settings who want to strengthen their communication skills and enhance their approach to supervision. It is ideal for both new and experienced educators, including team leaders, coordinators, and casual staff responsible for supervising and engaging with children as part of their daily role.
