Nature-Inspired Storytelling (3-part series)
In this series of workshops, you will explore nature-inspired storytelling strategies and experiences to help you in supporting children’s literacy, communication, creative expression and SEL development. What you learn will help you to grow your confidence to become a natural storyteller for and alongside children, and you’ll take home ideas and inspiration that you can implement into your program right away!
Session 1:
Nature Inspired Storytelling: Top Tips & Tools for Telling Terrific Tales
In this engaging and interactive session, Tania will share her Top 5 Nature Storytelling Tools to help participants to grow their skills and confidence as natural storytellers. Participants will take home ideas and inspiration for storytelling strategies that they can implement into their programs right away.
In Session 1, you will:
- discover Tania’s Top 5 Nature Storytelling Tools
- explore who’s on your bookshelf and why it’s important
- learn how to springboard off picture books for sustainability, nature connection and SEL
Session 2:
Stonework Play: Nurturing Literacy and Creative Expression with Nature
Stonework Play connects participants with nature, creative expression, art and storytelling, using stones as the medium. This hands-on, interactive session inspires creative and meaningful engagement with nature. It encourages self-directed learning, teaches critical thinking skills, and provides opportunity for sustained and purposeful effort. It is also an innovative and engaging tool in supporting and developing social and emotional and language and literacy skills.
In Session 2, you will:
- learn about the Stonework Play experience, which encourages self-directed learning, teaches critical thinking skills, supports language and literacy skills, nurtures SEL, and provides opportunity for sustained and purposeful effort
- participate in a practical Stonework Play experience
Session 3:
Clay and Storylines: Wonderful Ways to Bring Stories, Language and Literacy to life
In this fun, hands-on and very interactive session, participants will switch on their imaginations to create clay creatures and gather ideas and inspiration from the natural world to become ‘Story Makers’ alongside children.
In Session 3, you will:
- explore how simple natural materials like clay, natural loose parts and a piece of twine can support children to actively engage in storytelling and storymakingexperiences
- participate in a practical Clay and Storylines experience
