Mindful Movement in Early Childhood Education & Care Settings (3-part series)

This professional development course introduces mindful movement in early childhood settings, focusing on its benefits for children’s development, positive wellbeing, focus, and emotional regulation. It provides play-based experiences such as breathing, yoga, and movement-based storytelling.
This professional development course introduces mindful movement in early childhood settings, focusing on its benefits for children’s development, positive wellbeing, focus,and emotional regulation.Linked to the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0 (EYLF), the course provides practical, evidence-based strategies to integrate mindful through playincluding simple breathing exercises, yoga,gratitude and movement-based storytelling. Educators will discover innovative ideas for designing mindful spaces, establishing calming rhythms & routines, and integrating meaningful rituals to help create supportive early learning environments. 
 
In this series of workshops, you will explore the positive impact of mindful movement on children's development and well-being, and gain practical strategies for integrating it into your early childhood education and care setting. 

 

 

Session 1: 

Why Mindful Movement Matters 

In this session, we’ll explore mindful movement in early childhood and why it matters. We’ll examine how intentional, awareness-based movement helps children connect with their bodies, emotions, and learning environments, drawing on key developmental theories.   

In Workshop 1, educators will: 

  • Unpack the fundamental principles of mindful movement and its importance in early childhood development. 
  • Explore the crucial connection between mindful movement and fostering resilience in young children. 
  • Discover how intentional, awareness-based movement supports both children and adults to connect with their bodies, emotions, and learning environments. 
  • Identify links between mindful movement and the principles, practices and learning outcomes of the EYLF V2.0. 

 

Session 2: 

Designing Mindful Spaces, Rhythms and Routines 

This session shares ways educators can thoughtfully integrate mindful movement into their daily practice by effectively designing mindful spaces, rhythms & routines that foster secure, supportive, and focused learning environments.  

In Workshop 2, educators will: 

  • Discover innovative ideas for effectively designing mindful spaces that support calmness and concentration for young children. 
  • Reflect upon culturally responsive mindfulness pedagogy to help foster a sense of belonging and promote the holistic well-being of every child. 
  • Design an action plan for establishing rhythms and meaningful rituals to thoughtfully integrate mindfulness into your daily practice. 

 

Session 3:

Weaving Mindful Movement Across the Curriculum

In this session, we’ll explore play-based strategies to embed mindful movement across the curriculum, helping you create engaging, intentional experiences that support children’s development and positive well-being. 

In Workshop 3, educators will: 

  • Explore ways to weave mindful movement across the early childhood curriculum to support a young child’s emotional regulation and positive well-being. 
  • Discover play-based ideas to bring mindful movement into early learning settings including simple breathing exercises, yoga, and movement-based storytelling. 
  • Learn ways to connect children with nature to promote mindful movement, cognitive focus and deep learning.

She works to design innovative teaching and learning resources aligned with priorities in early childhood pedagogy.
