Fostering Family Connection and Engagement in OSHC

When family engagement is grounded in genuine connection and community, rather than compliance with the National Quality Framework, everyone benefits. Authentic engagement goes beyond information sharing, it involves building trust, fostering belonging, and co-creating environments that reflect and respond to the diverse needs of children, young people, and their families.

This workshop invites educators to critically reflect on current approaches to family engagement and explore how we can move beyond transactional interactions toward deeper, more reciprocal partnerships.

Participants will explore practical strategies for creating open, respectful, and culturally responsive communication, strengthening collaborative relationships, and embedding family voice into programs, policies, and practice.

Underpinned by My Time, Our Place and the National Quality Framework, this session will support educators to reflect on, reframe, and refine their engagement practices, ensuring families feel seen, heard, and valued as key partners in the OSHC community

In this session, you will:

  • Explore what it means to create a welcoming and culturally responsive environment for families, and how fostering strong partnerships can enrich program planning, enhance communication
  • Critically reflect upon current practice and the ‘why’ behind them
  • Develop strategies to support a more holistic approach to family connection and engagement

Recommended Audience: All educators working in OSHC at any stage of their career.
