This ten-day* intensive course is for students, parents (including expectant), and professionals who want to develop and deepen their understanding of infant development and care. Course content includes an overview of Magda Gerber’s Educaring® Approach – gross motor, fine motor and social-emotional development of the infant – designing the environment – planning the curriculum – issues in parenting. RIE® Foundations™ training can be applied in settings such as the natural family, the childcare center, and family childcare. The format for the course includes lectures, discussions, videos and visits to infant care centers.
Polly Elam, RIE® Associate and Infant Specialist, studied and worked with Magda Gerber for more than 20 years. She first studied at the Emmi Pikler Institute in 1986 and has participated in advance training through the years. She was a presenter at the International Pikler Conference in Budapest in 2007. Polly has previous experience as a Regional Child Development Program Administrator and Community College Instructor. She is a graduate of WestEd’s Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) and a contributing writer to Authentic Relationships in Group Care for Infants and Toddlers: Resources for Infant Educarers Principles into Practice.
As an ECE Consultant, she has worked with a variety of infant and toddler programs and has conducted seminars and workshops in Canada, Puerto Rico, Europe, New Zealand, Australia and throughout the United States.

*RIE® Foundations™ Theory and Observation is completed in 10 days training. Given the public holiday on 27th January, daily course hours will be scheduled to meet the required course hours over a 9 day period.
